2010 to 2013

When I moved to New Zealand in 2010, I was in a different hemisphere of the Earth, in a different culture and a different ecosystem. I also had a much smaller space to paint in, a little shed off the garage. As we were renting, I couldn’t splash paint around the way I had grown accustomed to in other spaces. I developed a technique of putting streaks of paint on the canvas from the paint tube and then liberally spraying it forcefully with a water bottle, letting the colours run down across the canvas. I wasn’t trying to make landscapes at first, it just turned out that way. But then this became my new style of painting and I more purposefully tried to use colours that would evoke abstract landscapes.
