Boxing Day
Wyuna Bay, Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand
December 26, 2010
From the unpublished collection: New (Zealand) Enthusiasms
Sitting in a hammock at
Wyuna Bay.
Peaceful.
Harmonious.
Beautiful.
So many blues and greens
it could make anyone a
poet.
Wyuna Bay
So many
blues
and
greens
I become a poet,
again.
The gentle splashing sounds
of waves and
waves and
waves of insects rhythmically chanting and the
gentle hammock rocking,
hammocking.
Warm air
cool breeze.
The mad sun, everywhere
– interacting –
creating chemical reactions
with green and blue
and flesh
waves rippling progressively
moving,
going nowhere.
The insects repeating the
Same old stuttering buzz
buzz
buzzing
I keep looking at the
blues and greens
and the feelings this
whole tableau
evokes – in me.
Little white splashes
cool breeze through my toes
a new insect starts
clicking
the sun pushes
through the leaves
the feeling is something
like
a clenched and knotted
soul
slowly
starting
to relax.
